Davydenko was born in Serverodonezk, Ukraine before moving to Salmtal, Germany at the age of 15. He received Russian citizenship at 18 and moved back to Russia in early 2004 where he married his wife, Irina, in 2006 in Moscow. Davydenko speaks fluent German, loves fishing, soccer and ice hockey and has enjoyed a personal relationship with the late Russian President Boris Yeltsin. He has also been a member of the Russian Davis Cup and Olympic teams and his tennis heroes growing up were Ivan Lendl and Yannick Noah. |
